SWEDISH MASSAGE
This is what people are usually thinking of when they ask for a massage.  In Swedish massage we use a fair amount of oil, and long gliding strokes.  There are five basic techniques to Swedish massage: gliding, kneading, friction, vibration, and percussion.  Along with these five basic moves, streatching, limb mobilization, rocking, and other skills are often applied.   These, when combined skillfully, will give one a very relaxing therapeutic massage.  This is standard to all American massage therapists.

DEEP TISSUE
This is more for people who have injuries and chronic pains, which many of us do by the time we reach adulthood. The therapist uses less oil for this massage so he/she can gain more traction on the skin, allowing deeper penetration into the underlying muscle mass below. This is often done with the elbow or the fingers and thumbs. Excellent for those who want good firm pressure as well as those seeking to address problem areas.
